Defending champion Melbourne United (NBL) agreed terms with 28-year old American forward DJ Kennedy (198-98kg-89, college: St.John's). He played last summer at Overseas Elite (The Basketball Tournament) in the U.S. Kennedy managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. He helped them to win the league title. The last season Kennedy played at Pinar Karsiyaka (BSL) in league where in 29 games he was second best scorer with impressive 15.7ppg and averaged 6.5rpg (leader !!!), 5.1apg and 1.4spg (in top 5). Good season as he was named League Player of the Week (3 times). Kennedy also played 18 games in Basketball Champions League where he had very remarkable stats: 19.0ppg, 8.4rpg, 3.2apg and 1.8spg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Basketball Champions League 1st Team, All-Imports Team and also here League Player of the Week (2 times).
Kennedy has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted Eurobasket.com All-German Bundesliga Import Player of the Year back in 2015.
Kennedy is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in China, France (Gravelines Dunkerque), Israel (Hapoel Holon), Russia (Enisey and Krasny Oktyabr), NBA (Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies), Germany (EnBW Ludwigsburg) and NBA G League (Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Erie Bay Hawks).
Kennedy attended St. John's University until 2011 and it will be his eighth season as a professional player.
