American DJ Kennedy (198-F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader United and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 18. The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 21 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team beat Wildcats (18-10) 81-70. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed United to jump to the first place in the Australian NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. United has a very solid 18-10 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. Kennedy turned to be United's top player in his first season with the team. St. John's University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Kennedy is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 7.4rpg).
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 25-year old American forward Shawn Long (208-F-93, agency: Pensack Sports) of Breakers. Long impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Breakers lost that game 78-84 to slightly higher-ranked Bullets (#4, 14-14). Despite lost game Breakers moved up to 6th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 12-16 record. Long is a newcomer at Breakers and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.3ppg (#5). He also registered 9.0 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was American Melo Trimble (190-G-95) of Taipans (#8). Trimble showcased his all-around game by recording 21 points, five rebounds and nine assists in the last round. He was a key player of Taipans, leading his team to a 87-85 win against the higher-ranked United (#1, 18-10). Taipans can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 6-22 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Trimble he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Trimble has individually a great season in Australia. After 28 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.5ppg (best scorer) and assists with 4.6apg (3rd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Andrew Bogut (213-C-84) of Kings - 12 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Bryce Cotton (185-G-92) of Wildcats - 29 points and 3 assists 6. Kevin Lisch (188-G-86) of Kings - 18 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 7. Anthony Drmic (198-G/F-92) of 36ers - 18 points and 10 rebounds 8. Nick Kay (206-C/F-92) of Wildcats - 14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Armani Moore (193-F-94) of Breakers - 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists 10. Cameron Bairstow (206-F-90) of Bullets - 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
