Wani Swaka
All the results and final standings from Day 6 of the 2019 Australian U20 and Ivor Burge Championships being held in Canberra at Basketball Austraila's Centre of Excellence. Victoria have claimed the Under-20's double with Championships in the men's and women's tournament while New South Wales won their first Ivor Burge women's Championship since 2017 and South Australia ended a run of four silver medals with gold in the Ivor Burge men. For the Under-20 men, the Vics had met Western Australia in last year's Under-18 Championships and several players from that final, which saw WA prevail, were back for this clash. The game looked to be following a similar script in the opening term with Wani Swaka (198-F-01) (15 points) setting the pace for WA. However, Victoria turned things around with a 23-9 second period as Kobe Williamson (200-C-01) (ten points) provided a spark off the bench (his side went on to finish with a 26-0 advantage in points from their second unit). Their defence and strength under the rim was the difference overall though, holding WA to 4-12 shooting in the crucial second quarter while at the other end of the floor, Tyler Robertson (198-F-00) (14 points) nailed two three-pointers and Keli Leaupepe (187-PF-00) (14 points, nine rebounds) and Oliver Hayes-Brown combined for ten points. WA threatened a comeback a few times through the second half via Kyle Bowen (203-F-00) (22 points, 17 rebounds, six assists) and Alex Ducas (194-G-00) (16 points, two assists) but the margin proved too great to overcome as Victoria won 76-69.
