International Guard Abbey Ellis (168-G-2001) had an amazing evening in the last round for Townsville Fire, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds, while her team beat Bendigo (#6, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 74-66. Townsville Fire is placed at 4th position in Australian WNBL. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Townsville won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Ellis had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range and got six three-pointers out of 9 attempts. She turned to be Townsville Fire's top player in her first season with the team. Former Purdue University star has very solid stats this year. Ellis is league's best scorer averaging so far 31.0ppg. Ellis is in league's top in rebounds (8th best: 10.0rpg) and averages impressive 57.1% FGP and 66.7% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Mackenzie Holmes (190-F-2001, agency: LBM Management) of Geelong United. Holmes had a very good evening with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as United lost that game 77-85 to Sydney (1-0). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Holmes is a newcomer at Geelong U., but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#5). She also registered 11.0 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was international forward Keely Froling (188-F-1996) of Sydney Flames (#3). Froling showcased her all-around game by recording 15 points, 12 rebounds (!!!) and 7 assists in the last round. She was a key player of Sydney Flames, leading her team to a 85-77 win against Geelong U. (#7, 0-1). Sydney has a very good start of the season. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Froling also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. The season just started for Froling as she played only first game. But it already looks like she can be team's leader.

The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
