WNBL Round 10 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Bendigo defeat Adelaide

WNBL top team - Bendigo Spirit (12-2) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat fifth ranked Adelaide Lightning (4-9) 75-67. The former international power forward Kelsey Griffin (188-1987, college: Nebraska) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and international guard Isobel Borlase (180-2004) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side the former international forward Steph Talbot (188-1994) responded with 16 points and 5 assists. Bendigo Spirit have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-2 record. Adelaide at the other side dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. Bendigo are looking forward to face league's second-placed Townsville on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Adelaide will play against Southside (#5) in Dandenong and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Southside Flyers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bendigo Spirit have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-2 record. Southside at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Bendigo will play against league's second-placed Townsville on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Southside will play against Sydney and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Sydney supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Townsville Fire (10-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Sydney Flames (3-10). Townsville Fire did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 96-76 on Saturday. Alexandra Fowler fired 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Unique Thompson produced 22 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Sydney Flames' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Townsville maintains second position with 10-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Bendigo. Sydney lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with ten games lost. Townsville will meet at home league's leader Bendigo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sydney will play against Southside (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 10 bottom-ranked Geelong U. lost to Canberra on the opponent's court 73-77. Adelaide was outscored by Perth in a home game 82-109.

Very expected game when 8th ranked United (3-11) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Canberra Capitals (6-6) 77-73 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Canberra looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international guard Jade Melbourne (178-2002, college: Arizona St.) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Zitina Aokuso chipped in 17 points. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. Rather predictable result when third ranked Perth Lynx (9-3) smashed on the road 5th ranked Adelaide Lightning (4-9) 109-82 on Sunday. Perth dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Adelaide Lightning's 28 and made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Adelaide 40-29 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Anneli Maley (185-1998, college: TCU) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Alex Ciabattoni (183-1994, college: Newman) chipped in 32 points. Four Perth Lynx players scored in double figures.
