The most exciting game of round 8 in the Big V took place in Bellarine. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 5th ranked Storm (7-2) to second ranked Warriors (7-3) 70-68 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Storm. American swingman Tazsa Garrett-Hammett (180, college: UWA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds. The other American import forward Bridget Mullings (190, college: GCU, agency: Crossover Management) contributed with 8 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Chantelle Hall replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for Bellarine. Warriors have a solid three-game winning streak. Despite that victory Pakenham W. went down to fourth position due to points difference. Bellarine at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. Pakenham W. are looking forward to face Sunbury J. (#7) at home in the next round. Bellarine will play against Bulleen (#9) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Warriors (7-3) against fourth ranked Cougars (8-1) on Sunday night. Visiting Warriors were crushed by Cougars in McKinnon 95-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Warriors. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Katherine Vaile (185, college: UW-Oshkosh) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 6 rebounds and Sarae Beveridge who added 13 points, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. American forward Bridget Mullings (190, college: GCU, agency: Crossover Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Cougars have an impressive five-game winning streak. McKinnon C. moved-up to second place. Pakenham W. at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. McKinnon C. will play against Hume City B. (#6) in Tullamarine in the next round. Pakenham W. will play at home against Sunbury J. and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The winners were led by Oliana Squires who had that evening a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Even a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds by Sienna Stone did not help to save the game for Warrnambool. Warrnambool's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Sherbrooke S. maintains first position with 9-2 record. Loser Warrnambool still closes the standings with ten games lost. Sherbrooke S. will meet Bulleen (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Warrnambool will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 8 Warrandyte V. was beaten by Hume City B. on the road 78-71. Bulleen won against Sunbury J. on its own court 81-77.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Hume City Broncos (5-6) beat 6th ranked Venom (3-9) in Tullamarine 78-71 on Saturday. The winners were led by American forward Kelly Heimburger (183-2002, college: Azusa Pacific) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and Monique Caparello supported her with 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Even 26 points and 9 rebounds by American swingman Alaya Fitzgerald (180, college: Portland St.) did not help to save the game for Warrandyte V.. Her fellow American import guard Amy Patton (178-1991, college: NAU) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Four Warrandyte V. players scored in double figures. Hume City B. moved-up to sixth place. Loser Venom dropped to the eighth position with nine games lost. Hume City B. will meet at home higher ranked Western Port (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Warrandyte V. will have a break next round.

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Jets (3-7) lost to ninth ranked Boomers (2-6) in Bulleen 77-81 on Sunday. Bulleen forced 19 Sunbury J. turnovers. The winners were led by Canadian point guard Jessica Hanson (175-1997, college: UBC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 assists and 5 steals and Canadian guard Olivia Weekes (180, college: UBC, agency: Dominion Sports Group) supported her with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Boomers' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds by Swedish forward Lovisa Hevinder (188-2002, college: UT Tyler) did not help to save the game for Sunbury J.. Guard Chloe Hildebrand added 17 points and 5 assists for the guests. Four Sunbury J. players scored in double figures. Bulleen maintains ninth position with 2-6 record. Sunbury J. lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Bulleen will meet at home league's leader Sherbrooke S. in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sunbury J. will play against Pakenham W. (#4) and hope to secure a win.

Sherbrooke S. dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Warrnambool's 18. Sherbrooke S. forced 25 Warrnambool turnovers. The winners were led by American guard Oliana Squires (175-1998, college: Montana St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and Melissa Prior supported her with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
