Date: November 5, 2022
There was an upset in Hobart where higher ranked JackJumpers (5-5) were edged by ninth ranked Bullets (3-5) 74-72 on Saturday. Bullets outrebounded JackJumpers 41-30 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international center Aron Baynes (208-1986, college: WSU) who scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. International guard Nathan Sobey (190-1990, college: Wyoming) chipped in 14 points and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Jack McVeigh (203-1996, college: Nebraska) who recorded 17 points and American Rashard Kelly (203-1995, college: Wichita St.) added 6 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. JackJumpers' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Bullets have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 3-5 record. Loser JackJumpers keep the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with Melbourne. Bullets will meet at home higher ranked Cairns Taipans (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. JackJumpers will play against the league's second-placed New Zealand Breakers where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
