Rather expected game when Canberra Capitals were smashed on the road by Townsville Fire 104-68 on Sunday. Townsville Fire made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Canberra Capitals turnovers. Townsville Fire looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Canberra Capitals' players. International guard Lauren Nicholson (183-1993, college: St.Mary's, CA) nailed 35 points (!!!) for the winning side and guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) accounted for 13 points and 14 assists. Five Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. American forward Dekeiya Cohen (188-1996, college: Baylor) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import swingman Rae Burrell (185-2000, college: Tennessee) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Canberra Capitals in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Townsville Fire will meet at home Adelaide Lightning in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against Perth Lynx and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
