Regular Season Round 7: SE Melbourne - Melbourne 84-69
Date: November 19, 2022
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Melbourne: Melbourne Phoenix (#5) and United (#7). Melbourne Phoenix (6-5) won against visiting United (5-7) 84-69. They outrebounded United 44-32 including 35 on the defensive glass. Melbourne Phoenix players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds. The former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) contributed with 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Canadian guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (193-1994, college: FSU) answered with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Rayjon Tucker (191-1997, college: UALR) added 22 points in the effort for United. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Melbourne Phoenix moved-up to fourth place. United at the other side keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Melbourne Phoenix will play against bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (#10) in Gwynneville in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. United will play at home against JackJumpers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
