Regular Season Round 8: SE Melbourne - Illawarra 112-78
Date: November 27, 2022
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Melbourne Phoenix (7-5) rolled over at home bottom-ranked Illawarra Hawks (1-10) 112-78 on Sunday. Melbourne Phoenix made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game, while Illawarra Hawks only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Illawarra Hawks 40-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by the former international swingman Mitch Creek (196-1992) who scored that evening 27 points and 6 rebounds and American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) supported him with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Five Melbourne Phoenix players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by American guard Tyler Harvey (194-1993, college: EWU) did not help to save the game for Illawarra Hawks. His fellow American import guard Michael Frazier II (191-1994, college: Florida) added 17 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Melbourne Phoenix maintains fourth position with 7-5 record. Illawarra Hawks lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Melbourne Phoenix's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Melbourne United.
