Very expected game when 6th ranked Adelaide Lightning (3-8) was defeated at home by second ranked Bendigo Spirit (8-1) 78-66 on Wednesday. Bendigo Spirit dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Adelaide Lightning's 28. They outrebounded Adelaide Lightning 52-31 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Anneli Maley (187-1998, college: TCU) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 24 rebounds. The former international power forward Kelsey Griffin (188-1987, college: Nebraska) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Four Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Stephanie Talbot (188-1994) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Marena Whittle (180-1994, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) added 6 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Adelaide Lightning's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bendigo Spirit maintains second position with 8-1 record behind leader Melbourne. Adelaide Lightning lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with eight games lost.
