No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Townsville Fire (6-4) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Canberra Capitals (0-12) 77-62 on Saturday. Townsville Fire made 16-of-16 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. The former international guard Lauren Nicholson (183-1993, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) chipped in 17 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international swingman Jade Melbourne (176-2002, college: Arizona St.) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and New Zealand guard Shanice Swain (165-1993) scored 17 points. Townsville Fire maintains fourth place with 6-4 record. Canberra Capitals lost their twelfth game in a row. They still close the standings with 12 games lost. Townsville Fire will meet Sydney Flames (#7) on the road in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against the league's leader Boomers in Melbourne and hope to get finally their first victory.
