Regular Season Round 8: Joondalup W. - Perth R. 97-71
Date: April 21, 2023
There was no surprise in Joondalup where bottom-ranked Redbacks (0-4) were crushed by top-ranked Wanneroo (5-0) 97-71 on Friday. Wanneroo dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Redbacks' 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Robbi Ryan (175-1997, college: Arizona St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds and guard Chelsea Belcher (173-1998) who added 19 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Wanneroo players scored in double figures. The former international guard Mikayla Pirini (169-1996) responded with 14 points and 4 assists and American forward Ashli Payne (183-1995, college: EWU) scored 7 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wanneroo have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Redbacks still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Wanneroo will meet Slammers (#13) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Redbacks will have a break next round.
