We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 11th ranked Salties (3-2) were defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Cairns Marlins (3-4) 90-73 on Friday. Cairns Marlins shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Guard Ky Stattmann (193-2003, college: Daytona St.) stepped up and scored 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners and Jonah Antonio (196-1997, college: Wake Forest) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side the former international guard Sean Macdonald (185-2000) responded with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and the former international swingman Makuach Maluachx (200-1998, college: N.Mexico) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Cairns Marlins and five Salties players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cairns Marlins moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Salties dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Cairns Marlins will meet at home Brisbane Spartans (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Salties will play against Brisbane Capitals (#14) and hope to secure a win.
