Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Lightning (2-6) was outscored by top-ranked Cougars (4-0) in Hamilton Hill 83-56 on Saturday. Cougars outrebounded Lightning 50-37 including 19 on the offensive glass. Danish swingman Sarah Mortensen (185-1997, college: Villanova) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Jewel Williams (168-2001) supported her with 17 points. Even 15 points and 9 rebounds by guard Caitlyn Jones (175-2001, college: Idaho) did not help to save the game for Lightning. American forward Laci Hawthorne (183-1999, college: Utah St.) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cougars have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-0 record having 3 victories less than leader Wyndham D. Loser Lightning dropped to the tenth place with six games lost. Cougars will meet at home league's leader Wanneroo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lightning will play against Suns (#6) and hope to secure a win.
