There was an upset when much higher ranked Pirates (5-2) lost to fourteenth ranked Meteorettes (2-4) in Mackay 55-71 on Saturday. Meteorettes forced 19 Pirates turnovers. Denesha Bobongie notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American guard Davida Dale (180-1997, college: URI) supported her with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Meteorettes' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 20 points and 9 rebounds by American Leah Scott (183-1993, college: Marshall) did not help to save the game for Pirates. Guard Hannah Young (188-1993, college: Virginia Tech) added 11 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Meteorettes moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Pirates dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Southern T. and Sherbrooke S.. Meteorettes will meet at home higher ranked Rollers (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pirates will play against Force (#11) and hope to secure a win.
