There was no surprise in Melbourne where 8th ranked Vikings (2-6) were defeated by sixth ranked Cougars (4-4) 90-77 on Saturday. Cougars dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vikings' 38. Cougars had a 39-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Sharif Black (185-1996, college: Bemidji St.) stepped up and scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Nathan Davis (193-1998, college: Seton Hill) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Denzel Brito (185-1991, college: Loyola, MD) responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and center Edward Bourke produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Five Cougars and four Vikings players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cougars have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 4-4 record, which they share with Maitland M. Vikings lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with six games lost. Cougars will meet at home league's second-placed Jets in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vikings will play against Devils (#4) and hope to secure a win.
