There was a surprise result in Cheltenham where ninth ranked Sabres (4-3) beat 4th placed Eltham Wildcats (5-1) 89-75 on Saturday. Sabres made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. The former international forward Dane Pineau (206-1994, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Campbell Blogg (194-2003) chipped in 18 points. Five Sabres players scored in double figures. Sabres' coach Rhys Carter used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side the former international guard Angus Glover (192-1998) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Callum Dalton (207-2000) scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. Sabres have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Eltham Wildcats dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Sabres will meet Dandenong Rangers (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Eltham Wildcats will play against Spectres (#5) in East Burwood and hope to secure a win.
