There was a small surprise in Rockingham where seventh ranked Flames (4-3) outscored 5th ranked Magic (3-2) 87-65 on Friday. Flames dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Magic's 40. They outrebounded Magic 46-31 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Flames looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Tayah Burrows (179-2001) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. American forward Mehryn Kraker (183-1994, college: Green Bay) chipped in 21 points and 7 assists. Five Flames players scored in double figures. Guard Casey Mihovilovich (173-1982) produced 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Katharine Tudor (183, college: Oregon St.) added 23 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Flames. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Logan T. and Geelong LS. Loser Magic dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Flames will meet at home Redbacks (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Magic will play against Suns (#8) in Kalamunda and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
