Regular Season Round 11: Geelong LS - Mt Gambier 85-74

There was an upset when higher ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (5-3) were defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Geelong Supercats (4-3) 85-74 on Saturday. Geelong Supercats dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Mount Gambier Pioneers' 24. They outrebounded Mount Gambier Pioneers 45-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. Geelong Supercats looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Chantel Horvat (185-1998, college: UCLA) who scored 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Eve Braslis (185-2000, college: Pepperdine) chipped in 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Geelong Supercats players scored in double figures. Guard Isabella Brancatisano (170-1995) produced 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and guard Sherrie Calleia (172-1999) added 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Geelong Supercats moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Rockingham F. and Logan T. Mount Gambier Pioneers lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Geelong Supercats will meet Tornadoes (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
