Everything could happen in Mt. Barker at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Eastern Mavericks and 9th ranked Central District Lions had identical 2-7 record. This time Eastern Mavericks used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Gawler 96-73 on Saturday night. Eastern Mavericks forced 19 Central District Lions turnovers. Strangely Central District Lions outrebounded Eastern Mavericks 45-33 including 35 on the defensive glass. American guard James Legan (190-1987, college: ECU) fired 30 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward Jack Hemphill (206-1999, college: SFC) chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American swingman Branden Jenkins (196-1994, college: TxWes) produced 27 points and 5 rebounds and forward Magok Manyang (203-2002, college: N.Mexico JC) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Eastern Mavericks maintains eighth position with 3-7 record, which they share with Lakeside L. and Cent.Coast C. Central District Lions lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Bankstown B. and Casey C.. Eastern Mavericks will meet Noarlunga City Southern Tigers (#10) in the next round. Central District Lions will play against Woodville Warriors and hope to secure a win.
