Everything went according to plan in Northbridge where leader Cougars (8-0) outleveled 12th ranked Redbacks (1-8) 103-80 on Friday. Cougars dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Redbacks' 28. Cougars forced 23 Redbacks turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. Center Jessie Edwards (193-1995, college: Minnesota) stepped up and scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Danish swingman Sarah Mortensen (185-1997, college: Villanova) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Four Cougars players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Brooke Malone (185-2003, college: Idaho) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-1996) scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Cougars. They moved-up to second place. Redbacks lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with eight games lost. Cougars will meet league's leader Wanneroo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Redbacks will play against Eagles (#8) and hope to win that game.
