Not a big story in a game in Sippy Downs where 13th ranked Rip City (2-6) was defeated by seventh ranked Brisbane Spartans (6-4) 83-77 on Saturday. Brisbane Spartans had a 42-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swedish forward Elin Gustavsson (190-1993, college: Colorado St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds for the winners and guard Madelyn Allen (178-1994) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side Carlie Smith responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and American guard NDea Flye (173-1998, college: Rocky Mountain) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Rip City's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Brisbane Spartans. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Logan T. and S.Adelaide P. Rip City lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with six games lost. Brisbane Spartans will meet higher ranked Pirates (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rip City will play against the league's second-placed Salties (#2) in Darwin and hope to secure a win.
