There was no surprise in Greensborough where 17th ranked Bendigo Braves (3-7) were defeated by eighth ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (7-4) 107-93 on Saturday. Diamond Valley Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Bendigo Braves' 46 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bendigo Braves 43-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Diamond Valley Eagles looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Sudanese forward Ngor Manyang (200-1993) who scored 25 points. Center Jock Perry (216-1997, college: UC Riverside) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized South Sudanese forward Lat Mayen (206-1998, college: Nebraska) who recorded a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds and American point guard Bijan Johnson (183-1997, college: NM Military) added 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Diamond Valley Eagles have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Bendigo Braves dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. They share it with Cockburn C. and Eastern M.. Diamond Valley Eagles will meet Tigers (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bendigo Braves will have a break next round.
