Very predictable result when eighth ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (7-4) won against 14th ranked Tigers (4-7) in Melbourne 89-75 on Sunday. Diamond Valley Eagles dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tigers' 34. They outrebounded Tigers 42-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American Mandrell Worthy (191-1996, college: Azusa Pacific) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Forward BJ Symons (-1998) accounted for 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Worth to mention Worthy played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Diamond Valley Eagles players scored in double figures. Diamond Valley Eagles' coach Trevor Lee used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Mason Gaze (198-2001, college: Lindenwood) came up with 23 points and guard Taj Chehhal (188-2001) added 23 points respectively for Tigers in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Diamond Valley Eagles. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Tigers lost their third game in a row. They keep the fourteenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Ringwood H. and NW Tasmania. Diamond Valley Eagles will meet at home higher ranked Sabres (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tigers will play against Spectres (#6) in East Burwood and hope to secure a win.
