The game between closely ranked teams ended with 4th placed Cougars' (5-6) home loss to third ranked Suns (7-4) 63-97 on Sunday. Suns dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 42 and made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Cougars 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. New Zealand forward Alicia Carline (190-1993, college: Portland St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and American Porsche Poole (175-1989, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 21 points and 5 steals. Poole is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Suns players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Briana Gray (178, college: Weber St.) responded with 8 points and 7 rebounds and Tamara Booth scored 10 points (made all of her twelve free throws !!!). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Suns maintains third place with 7-4 record having just two points less than leader Wyndham D., which they share with Frankston B. and Ringwood H. Loser Cougars keep the fourth position with six games lost. They share it with Nunawading S. and Hobart C.. Suns will meet Warriors (#5) in the next round. Cougars will play against Camberwell in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
