There was an upset in Cheltenham where higher ranked Sabres (5-7) were defeated by sixteenth ranked Tornadoes (4-7) 84-79 on Sunday. Tornadoes made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Sabres outrebounded Tornadoes 38-26 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Keely Froling (188-1996, college: SMU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for the winners and guard Olivia West (168, college: UC Riverside) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Tornadoes players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-1995, college: Florida) responded with 25 points and forward Georgia Pineau (185-1997, college: Boston Coll.) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Sabres' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tornadoes moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Sabres lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Townsville F.. Tornadoes will meet at home Wildcats (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sabres will play against Diamond Valley Eagles in Greensborough and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
