There was no surprise when 13th ranked Townsville Heat (3-9) lost to eleventh ranked South West Metro Pirates (5-5) in Runcorn 71-81 on Sunday. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Kai Woodfall (183-1996, college: MBU) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. Center Ben Volkman (206-1997, college: Maryville, MO) accounted for 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. South West Metro Pirates' coach Aja Parham-Ammar used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Ethan Betts (188-1998, college: Umpqua CC) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and center Matthew Rees (205-1987) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Townsville Heat in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. South West Metro Pirates moved-up to seventh place. Townsville Heat lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with nine games lost. They share it with Bankstown B. and Penrith P.. South West Metro Pirates will meet at home Brisbane Spartans (#8) in the next round. Townsville Heat will have a break next round.
