Regular Season Round 14: Mt Gambier - Knox R. 88-80

Rather expected game when 7th ranked Knox Raiders (7-6) lost to fourth ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (8-3) in Mt Gambier 80-88 on Saturday. Strangely Knox Raiders outrebounded Mount Gambier Pioneers 39-26 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Guard Miela Goodchild (178-2000, college: Duke) notched 28 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (189-1992, college: Portland) supported her with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds by power forward Kiera Rowe (183-1999) did not help to save the game for Knox Raiders. Forward Alicia Froling (190-1996, college: SMU) added 22 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Mount Gambier Pioneers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Willetton T. and Southern T. Knox Raiders lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Albury LB and Maitland M.. Mount Gambier Pioneers will meet at home Lady Cobras (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Knox Raiders will play against Geelong Supercats (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
