There was a surprise result when sixth ranked Cougars (8-5) edged top-ranked Hume City Broncos (10-4) in Tullamarine 89-88 on Saturday. Strangely Hume City Broncos outrebounded Cougars 44-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. Guard Sharif Black (185-1996, college: Bemidji St.) notched 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and guard Nathan Davis (193-1998, college: Seton Hill) supported him with 18 points and 6 assists. Even 27 points and 5 assists by guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) did not help to save the game for Hume City Broncos. Point guard Christopher Elder (180-1989, college: St.Francis, IL) added 21 points for lost side. Hume City Broncos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Cougars maintains sixth position with 8-5 record, which they share with Mt Gambier. Loser Hume City Broncos dropped to the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Willetton T.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
