Regular Season Round 22: Sandringham S. - Melbourne T. 99-74
Date: June 8, 2023
Very expected game when 15th ranked Tigers (5-9) were smashed by fourth ranked Sabres (11-4) in Cheltenham 99-74 on Thursday. Sabres outrebounded Tigers 55-26 including a 43-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Dane Pineau (206-1994, college: St.Mary's, CA) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Ben Ayre (188-1995, college: Newman) supported him with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Sabres players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 5 assists by forward Jack Purchase (203-1995, college: Hawaii) did not help to save the game for Tigers. Forward Felix Von Hofe (196-1993, college: EWU) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sabres have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Tigers dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Goldfields G. and Kilsyth C.. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
