No shocking result in a game in Hermit Park where sixth ranked Phoenix (6-6) defeated 14th ranked Townsville Heat (3-11) 113-100 on Friday. Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized New Zealand Jonathan Janssen (205-1995, college: HPU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. New Zealand point guard Mason Bragg (182-1993) helped adding 21 points and 4 assists. Five Phoenix players scored in double figures. Michael Cedar (190-1986) responded with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Ethan Betts (188-1998, college: Umpqua CC) scored 23 points and 4 assists. Townsville Heat's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Phoenix went down to eighth position due to points difference, which they share with Cairns M. and Northside W. Townsville Heat lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Phoenix will meet at home Rip City (#12) in the next round. Townsville Heat will play against Mackay Meteors and hope to secure a win.
