The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Wizards (13-1) in Taigum on Friday night. Hosts were edged by sixth ranked Cyclones (9-5) 83-82. Cyclones dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Wizards' 38. Cyclones forced 19 Wizards turnovers. American guard Lauren Heard (175-1999, college: TCU) saved the victory by scoring 32 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import center Samantha Bowman (188, college: CWU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) answered with 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Amanda Johnson added 11 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Wizards. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cyclones have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Wizards at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. Cyclones is looking forward to face Meteorettes (#14) in Mackay in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Wizards will play on the road against Salties (#3) in Darwin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
