Everything went according to plan when thirteenth ranked Rip City (3-10) defeated 15th ranked Sunshine CP (1-12) in Cotton Tree 83-65 on Saturday. Rip City dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Sunshine CP's 24. Rip City forced 23 Sunshine CP turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Carlie Smith nailed 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and American guard NDea Flye (173-1998, college: Rocky Mountain) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Rip City players scored in double figures. American forward Alex Wittinger (185-1997, college: Illinois) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international Kathleen Macleod (167-1986) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively for Sunshine CP in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rip City moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hume City B. Sunshine CP lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Rip City will meet Capitals (#8) in the next round. Sunshine CP will play against Roar in Brisbane and hope to win that game.
