There was no surprise in Launceston where 15th ranked Tornadoes (6-11) were defeated by twelfth ranked Spectres (8-9) 89-72 on Saturday. Spectres dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Tornadoes' 20 and made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Tornadoes 50-25 including a 23-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Spectres looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American Devon Brookshire (190-1994, college: SMC, agency: DC Sports) who scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Rachel Brewster (180-1997, college: Utah St.) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Olivia West (168, college: UC Riverside) who recorded 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American guard Riley Lupfer (175, college: Boise St.) added 20 points respectively. Spectres maintains twelfth position with 8-9 record. Loser Tornadoes keep the fifteenth place with 11 games lost. Spectres will meet Thunder (#17) in the next round where they are favorite. Tornadoes will play against Diamond Valley Eagles in Greensborough and hope to secure a win.
