Regular Season Round 19: Townsville F. - Rockhampton C. 47-67

Rather expected game in Townsville where 7th ranked Flames (9-8) were rolled over by fourth ranked Cyclones (12-5) 67-47 on Friday. Cyclones dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Flames' 22. Cyclones forced 19 Flames turnovers and outrebounded them 50-30 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American center Samantha Bowman (188, college: CWU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 20 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Lauren Heard (175-1999, college: TCU) helped adding 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side forward Alexandra Fowler (188-2001, college: Portland) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Majella Carey (180) scored 5 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Cyclones. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Rockingham F. Loser Flames dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Cairns D.. Cyclones will meet at home Seahawks (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Flames will play against the league's leader Wizards and hope to secure a win.
