There was an upset in Wantirna South where higher ranked Knox Raiders (9-9) were edged by fourteenth ranked Tornadoes (8-11) 57-55 on Saturday. Tornadoes held Knox Raiders to an opponent 24.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Strangely Knox Raiders outrebounded Tornadoes 56-25 including a 26-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for swingman Micah Simpson (175-2002) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points. Guard Olivia West (168, college: UC Riverside) helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Four Tornadoes players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Alicia Froling (190-1996, college: SMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds and guard Rachael Quirk (-1993) scored 7 points and 12 rebounds. Tornadoes moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Nunawading S. and Kilsyth LC. Loser Knox Raiders keep the ninth position with nine games lost. Tornadoes will meet at home higher ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Knox Raiders will play against Rangers (#11) in Dandenong and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
