The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Falcons as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Falcons smashed 12th ranked Hawks in Newcastle 72-45. Falcons forced 27 Hawks turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Abigail Curtin (185-1997, college: Denver) who scored 25 points. Guard Kate Kingham (176-2002) chipped in 15 points. Argentinian center Emilia Garcia Leon (182-1994) produced 8 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Rebecca Abel (168-1999) added 10 points respectively for the guests. Hawks' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Falcons (18-2) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Manly Warr. SE. Hawks at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Hawks will play next round against Crusaders trying to get back on the winning streak. Falcons will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Mustangs in Maitland.
