Everything went according to plan when first ranked Cougars (16-1) outplayed bottom-ranked Slammers (0-19) in Bunbury 114-34 on Friday. Cougars held Slammers to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 45.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Cougars forced 41 Slammers turnovers and outrebounded them 51-37 including a 28-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Slammers' players. Danish swingman Sarah Mortensen (185-1997, college: Villanova) nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winning side and guard Stephanie Gorman (183-2000, college: San Diego) accounted for 26 points and 5 assists. Coach Tyrone Thwaites's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Javene Fitch came up with 7 points and 7 rebounds and Jasmine Barrett added 10 points respectively for Slammers in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cougars. They maintain first place with 16-1 record. Slammers lost their nineteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 19 games lost. Cougars will meet at home Suns (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Slammers will play against Tigers (#3) and hope to get finally their first victory.
