There was no surprise when 4th placed Brisbane Spartans (12-6) lost to second ranked Thunder (15-4) in Loganholme 57-70 on Saturday. Thunder made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Thunder outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 59-29 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Mikaela Ruef (191-1990, college: Stanford) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points and 35 rebounds for the winning side and New Zealand forward Ashley Taia (182-1994, college: Indiana St.) accounted for 22 points. Swedish forward Elin Gustavsson (190-1993, college: Colorado St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jessica McDowell-White (168-2000, college: USF) added 15 points and 7 assists respectively for Brisbane Spartans in the defeat. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Thunder. They maintain second place with 15-4 record having eight points less than leader Wyndham D. Loser Brisbane Spartans dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
