The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Falcons (18-3) in Newcastle on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by sixth ranked Mustangs (14-7) 72-69. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Falcons. They outrebounded Falcons 44-32 including a 38-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American guard Sydney Hunter (183-1999, college: San Diego) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 19 rebounds. Her fellow American import swingman Madison Washington (185, college: Oregon St.) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Mustangs players scored in double figures. American guard Nicole Munger (180-1997, college: Michigan) answered with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and swingman Abigail Curtin (185-1997, college: Denver) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Falcons. Mustangs have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Falcons at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. Mustangs are looking forward to face Lady Bandits (#8) in Albury in the next round. Falcons will play at home against Bruins (#9) and are hoping to win this game.
