Regular Season Round 21: Waverley F. - Mt Gambier 71-77

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when second-best Falcons (16-5) lost to third ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (16-5) in Mount Waverley 71-77 on Saturday. Mount Gambier Pioneers made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Falcons turnovers. Guard Miela Goodchild (178-2000, college: Duke) nailed 25 points and 9 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (189-1992, college: Portland) accounted for 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Power forward Carley Ernst (196-1994) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds and Maddi Utti added 11 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Falcons in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Mount Gambier Pioneers. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Waverley F. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
