There was no surprise in Hornsby where 16th ranked Spiders (1-21) were defeated by eleventh ranked Sydney City Comets (10-10) 84-72 on Sunday. Sydney City Comets forced 21 Spiders turnovers and outrebounded them 49-38 including a 24-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American swingman Ilisia Washington (194-1998, college: Regis Univ.) who scored 24 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import center James Thomas (196, college: Randall) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds. Sydney City Comets' coach Lachlan Lonergan used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Kwabena Brefo (190-2002) who recorded 17 points and 6 rebounds and center Peitok Machar (206-2003) added 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively. Four Spiders players scored in double figures. Sydney City Comets moved-up to tenth place. Loser Spiders keep the sixteenth position with 21 games lost. Sydney City Comets will meet at home league's leader Excellence in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Spiders will have a break next round.
