Regular Season Round 4: Perth - Townsville 76-92
Date: November 25, 2023
The most shocking disappointment of round 4 was a home defeat of their biggest opponentPerth (3-2) by third ranked Townsville (4-1) who outscored them by 16 points 92-76 in the game for the second place. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Townsville Fire shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Zitina Aokuso (194-1998) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Samantha Whitcomb (178-1988, college: Washington) who added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Four Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international swingman Amy Atwell (183-1998, college: Hawaii) responded with 25 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) and Canadian center Emily Potter (195-1995, college: Utah) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Townsville have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Perth at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Southside. Townsville Fire are looking forward to face Adelaide Lightning (#5) at home in the next round. Perth will play against the league's leader Boomers in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
