Regular Season Round 9: Brisbane - Illawarra 78-77

Date: December 3, 2023
Everything went according to plan in Brisbane where sixth ranked Bullets (7-7) edged bottom-ranked Hawks (3-8) 78-77 on Sunday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Nathan Sobey (190-1990, college: Wyoming) who scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Christopher Smith (193-1994, college: Utah St.) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American Gary Clark (198-1994, college: Cincinnati) who recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Justin Robinson (188-1995, college: Virginia Tech) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Illawarra players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Brisbane maintains sixth place with 7-7 record. Loser Hawks stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Brisbane will meet league's leader Melbourne on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Illawarra will play against the league's second-placed Perth (#2) and hope to secure a win.
