Regular Season Round 15: NZL Breakers - Melbourne 81-82

Ninth-ranked New Zealand Breakers (8-12) gave a tough game to first ranked United (16-5) in Auckland on Friday. The visitors from Melbourne managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Melbourne looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-1988) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Luke Travers (200-2001) helped adding 13 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Anthony Lamb (198-1998, college: Vermont) with 22 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright (180-1995, college: Arizona) scored 21 points and 5 assists. Four Melbourne and five NZL Breakers players scored in double figures. Melbourne maintains first place with 16-5 record. NZL Breakers lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 12 games lost. Melbourne are looking forward to face Tasmania JJ (#3) in Hobart in the next round, which may be the game of the day. NZL Breakers will play at home against SE Melbourne (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
