There was a small surprise in Townsville where top-ranked Flames (1-0) won against their close opponent Meteorettes (1-1) 56-52 on Friday. The best player for the winners was guard Stephanie Reid (168-96, college: Buffalo) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. New Zealand guard Micaela Cocks (174-86, college: Oregon) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Cayla George (192-89) who recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds and Heidi Freeburn (-86) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Flames left bottom position moving up to sixth place in League. Loser Meteorettes dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Flames will face Cyclones (#8) in Rockhampton in the next round. Meteorettes will play at home against Cyclones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
