Everything went according to plan in Rockhampton where seventh ranked Pirates (3-4) outleveled bottom-ranked Cyclones (0-8) 91-56 on Friday. Pirates dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Cyclones' 26. Pirates forced 21 Cyclones turnovers. The best player for the winners was Amanda Johnson who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Cook Islander-New Zealand guard Kayla Kiriau (173-93) chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Four Pirates players scored in double figures. Pirates' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Lara McSpadden (193-99) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and Akaysha Muggeridge added 13 points respectively for the hosts. Despite that victory Pirates went down to ninth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Cyclones still closes the standings with eight games lost. Pirates will face Wizards (#11) in Taigum in the next round. Cyclones will play on the road against Capitals in Brisbane and hope to get finally their first victory.
