Everything went according to plan in Mackay where fifth ranked Meteorettes (5-1) outleveled 7th ranked Pirates (3-4) 89-56 on Saturday. Meteorettes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Pirates' 30. Strangely Pirates outrebounded Meteorettes 45-28 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Pirates' players. The best player for the winners was the former international center Cayla George (192-89) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Chelsea Brook (188-98) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Meteorettes' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Amanda Johnson produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and guard Bree Farley (178-90, college: Fresno St.) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Meteorettes maintains fifth position in League with 5-1 record. Loser Pirates dropped to the ninth place with four games lost. Meteorettes will face higher ranked Sunshine CP (#3) in Cotton Tree in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pirates will play at home against Wizards (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
