Regular Season Round 22: Melbourne T. - Ballarat R. 68-80

Date: June 27, 2021
There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Ballarat Rush (3-5) defeated higher ranked Tigers (6-4) in Melbourne 80-68 on Sunday. Ballarat Rush outrebounded Tigers 46-31 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Alicia Froling (190-96, college: SMU) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and the former international forward Kasey Burton (178-96) supported her with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Even 22 points by guard Isabella Brancatisano (170-95) did not help to save the game for Tigers. Forward Zitina Aokuso (192-98) added 11 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tigers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ballarat Rush moved-up to twelfth place in League. Loser Tigers keep the sixth position with four games lost. Ballarat Rush will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tigers will play against Hawks (#8) in Heathmont and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
